DEBBIE DAVIES
Ausstellung | Exhibition: 19.Feb - 29.Feb 2020
Vernissage | Opening 22.Mar 18:00-20:00
Presenting a retrospective of creations by LiTE-HAUS founder Debbie Davies. She is a multi-discipline visual artist show splits her time between Berlin and Brooklyn. This exhibition features her abstract paintings from the SPIRAL series, her videos from THE I LOVE YOU PROJECT, and her photographic works. This is not only an exhibition, but an opportunity to learn more about the origins of LiTE-HAUS and why Davies opened her atelier to other artists and the Neukölln community.
Davies "SPIRAL" series was created using discarded plywood as a surface for her rough, tactile paintings. Using crushed pumice, mica flakes, and garnet ore - mixed with acrylic paint - she uses a knife to create layers.
Davies has created over 60 small paintings in her SPIRAL series. Some works are vibrantly colorful; while others are dark and somber. This exhibition features a selection of this series in both Galleries 1 and 3.
While some of Davies "microscope" series is erotic, there are many photographs that capture simple moments. The photographic technology used for this project can sometimes capture what is beneath the skin.
