"To Whom It May Concern, Kunst is optional" an exhibition of the Graduates of the MA-Raumstrategien (MA Spatial Strategies) program at Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. A student-organized endeavor, this exhibition breaks with the tradition of summertime graduate exhibitions to become an encounter of artists and/or researchers who analyze and deal with the notions of space from different perspectives, albeit within a common framework of one study program. Its profile is fractured, as the artists featured in the exhibition come from different cultural, as well as educational and professional backgrounds and artistic (and otherwise) disciplines, working with varied media. 

The artists deal with a plethora of personal, urban, cultural, and social issues, understanding space not only as a physical/architectural given, but also as political entity in which social and cultural life unravel, as well as a direct subject of theoretical and artistic explorations: the themes of the artist's; works include the position of women in the Middle East; the border between public and private; privacy in the public, interrelations of seeing and being seen, physical and social distance; dwelling, environmental, and animal rights; (spatial) self-management, right to the city, decision-making and power in urban space; (politics of) the everyday (spaces).

»To Whom It May Concern, Kunst is optional.« ist eine Ausstellung der 2018 Absolvent*innen von dem MA-Raumstrategien Programm der Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin (KHB). Diese Ausstellung — eine von Student*innen organisierte Veranstaltung — bricht mit der Tradition der Abschlussausstellung im Sommer und wird stattdessen eher eine Begegnung zwischen Künstlern und Forschern, die alle mit Vorstellungen von Raum aus verschiedenen Perspektiven beschäftigt sind – und zwar im gemeinsamen Rahmen eines Studienprogramms. Aufgrund der verschiedenen kulturellen, edukativen und künstlerischen Hintergründe der Künstler weist das die Ausstellung ein fragmentiertes Profil auf. 

Die Künstler*innen behandeln eine Plethora von persönlichen, urbanen, kulturellen und sozialen Themen und nehmen daher „Raum“ nicht nur als physisches oder architektonisches Gerüst wahr sondern auch als eine politische Einheit in der ein soziales und kulturelles Leben stattfindet und als ein Subjekt von theoretischen und künstlerischen Erforschungen. Themen der künstlerischen Arbeiten sind u.a. die Position der Frauen im Mittleren Osten; die Grenze zwischen privat und öffentlich; Privatsphäre in der Öffentlichkeit, die wechselseitige Beziehung zwischen Beobachter und beobachtet zu werden, physische und soziale Distanz; Wohn- Umweltschutz- und Tierrechte; räumlicher Selbstverwaltung, Recht auf Stadt, Entscheidungsfindung und Macht im urbanen Raum; die Politik des Alltages.
